A Response to Andrew's Blog

A Response to Andrew’s blog.

By none other than… Brendan himself

I liked Andrew’s blog about tripling down on your strengths and not focusing on improving what you are not naturally good at. Coming from the guy who said I need to get better with words though, this is a questionable stance to take.

Now I get it, focus on what you are good at, but if you have twigs for arms and want absolute rock pythons, then you need to get in the gym and start curling some hardcore iron. That being said, I do have a point to make that agrees with his statement.

Happiness in life has a direct correlation with progress. We are naturally happier when we are making progress in our personal lives as well as our business lives. When you work hard and achieve desired results we get the sense of accomplishment. I don’t know about you, but when I accomplish something I radiate happiness and enthusiasm. In one word, I’m stoked.

The focus then should be working to progress in areas that you enjoy and are naturally good at. Not focusing on trying to work on areas that you were told you are bad in or that society deems as necessary to “fit in.” The key in all of this is hard work and a drive to progress in what you are interested in and fits YOUR mold.

Years ago we were told that playing videogames was a waste of time and if you wanted to succeed in anything you needed to drop the sticks and get a job, but look now… There are professional video game players as well as people making money off live twitch streams were users can log in and watch you play. Not to mention there are talks of E-Sports leagues in the future. Christ, I saw competitive drone flying on TV the other day!

Putting it all simply. Do what you love and what comes natural to you. Now just because it is natural doesn’t mean you sit back and let the success come to you. Pick the avenue that fits your personality and interest then hammer down. Work to progress in that field of interest every day and I’m sure over time everything is going to be just dandy. Look at the pet rock! My dude just really loved rocks and now he is worth millions, unless he used those profits to buy some dope rocks (no pun intended).

I will leave everyone with a quote from Tim Ferris. “The superheroes you have in your mind (idols, icons, elite athletes, billionaires, etc.) are nearly all walking flaws who’ve maximized one or two strengths. Humans are imperfect creatures. You don’t succeed because you have no weakness; you succeed because you find your unique strengths and focus on developing habits around them.

Now go out there and kill those tiny twig arms in the gym this weekend!!
