The Key to Happiness - Make Money Doing What You Love
95% of people in this world dislike their job ("my brain", pg 792). Why is that, you may ask yourself? Why do so many people spend an overwhelming majority of their time doing something that doesn't bring them any joy, satisfaction or gratitude? Well, keep reading...
I never wanted to work a traditional 9-5. It was always a goal of mine to start my own business. Mediocrity scared me. Complacency scared me. I knew I wanted to do something, I just didn't know what. Then I discovered real estate investing. I started reading and educating myself on all things real estate and got a second job as a server to start saving for my first investment. I did all this while working my regular job, 9-5 Monday-Friday. It's been about one year since I picked up my first real estate book, and now I'm working on my first flip.
Why am I telling you this? Because I think a lot of people may age feel the same way. In the words of Gary Vaynerchuck, "Everybody is happiest when they get to do what they want to do." It's not that complicated... Yet so many people never reach this point, because they are bogged down by other responsibilities, obligations and expectations. You should never let your current situation hold you back from pursuing what you're truly passionate about.
Some of you may hold strongly to the claim that "money can't buy happiness", and I absolutely agree. However, you need money to survive in this world. It is a basic human need, just like food and water. And for all you hippies out there that disagree, this blog isn't for you.
This blog is for those of you that are currently dissatisfied. Those of you that wake up with little motivation to start the day. Those of you that constantly contemplate doing something different with your lives, but have not yet made the commitment to do so.
It is 100% possible to go to work every single day and love what you do. So why is this not the case for so many people? It's because we're complacent. We know the amount of time and effort it would take to build a business doing what we love. Most would rather just settle for a steady paycheck and never have to worry about taking any risks in life.
You need to decide what is important to you. Maybe you enjoy your job, make good money and love going to work every day... and that's great. I'm happy for you, because you have found the key to happiness. But if you're part of the overwhelming majority that is currently dissatisfied with your situation, PLEASE TAKE ACTION!!! It is 100% up to you and no one is going to make it happen for you.
So what do you enjoy? Do you enjoy singing? Why don't you start a YouTube channel of you covering today's hit songs? Do you enjoy painting? Why don't you create an Instagram and Etsy account so you can start posting and selling your work online? Do you enjoy real estate? Why don't you start a real estate investing company and write a blog every week (just don't expect to be better than us)? The point I'm trying to make is that with the power of the internet and social media, there are LITERALLY THOUSANDS of ways you can make money doing what you're passionate about. You have the incredible ability to reach audiences all over the world without spending a dime. You just need to plan and execute. It will not happen over time, and it will not be easy, but I guarantee 5-10 years down the road you will look back and be happy with your decision.
